Acting

Program Overview

RSACE Film Institute

Acting is an activity in which a story is told by means of its enactment by an actor or actress who adopts a character—in theatre, television, film, radio, or any other medium that makes use of the mimetic mode.

Acting involves a broad range of skills, including a well developed imagination, emotional facility, physical expressivity, vocal projection, clarity of speech, and the ability to interpret drama. It also often demands an ability to employ dialects, accents, improvisation, observation and emulation, mime, and stage combat. Many actors train at length in specialist programmes or colleges to develop these skills. Actors and actresses will often have many instructors and teachers for a full range of training involving singing, scene-work, audition techniques, and acting for camera.

Program Objective

Acting (level 01) is a training ground for actors where they get to the truth of a scene and character. The journey will introduce the students to the language used in the industry to the process of approaching a script and developing a character to deliver a complete and believable performance. The core key of the course is to inculcate in student- actor the use of their imagination, senses and emotions to create credible, authentic performances that are grounded in the ‘truth of the moment.’

Introduction

Being in action is at the heart of the matter in the craft of acting; it is executed and performed step by step, not just felt by actors but has its own language. Doing something physical to oneself, someone or something (objects/ environment) is the only way the actor gains trust, confidence and faith in his/her imaginary portrayal and so, consequently, does the audience. The joy in acting as well as the reward comes from the doing, not the rendition or imitations of feelings. Your acting, therefore, is as genuine as you commit to the doing. If you do the doing, the acting will be real and you never have to concern yourself with feelings or emotions. Therefore, the dictum ” Good acting is good doing.”
