Anurag Basu is a well known Celebrity Director, Screenwriter, Actor, Producer and Indian Reality Show Judge.
Anurag started his career with television serials among which is Tara (1993), which became one of the first soap operas on Indian television. He also directed Balaji Telefilms Koshish Ek Aasha (1997) and Miit (2002), which was based on Rabindranath Tagore’s Noukadubi.
Anurag’s most successful work during this period was the Balaji Telefilms soap Koshish …Ek Aashaa in 2000 and he made the pilot episodes of Indian television shows including Kyun ki saans bhi kabhi bahu thi, Kahani ghar ghar ki and Kasouti zindagi ki in 2001 and 2002. He began his own company and initially he produced TV serials for Zee TV and Sony channel. Saaya (2003) belonged to the supernatural genre about a doctor who communicates with his dead wife through his patients. It starred John Abraham and Tara Sharma.
Murder (2004) was based on Hollywood’s hit Unfaithful. It starred Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat. The movie along with it’s soundtrack became a big success.
In 2006, Anurag Basu came back to make Gangster with Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Shiney Ahuja. It was based on Abu Salem’s real life affair with actress Monica Bedi. The movie did very well.It was followed by the critically acclaimed Life in a Metro.
He wrote the screenplays for Gangster, Life in a Metro and Kites and won the Filmfare Best Screenplay Award for Life in a Metro.
One of Anurag`s most prominent work continues to remain the Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Ileana D`cruz-starrer Barfi!, which follows the life of a deaf and mute boy and his relationship with an autistic girl.
The performances were received with rave reviews, winning it global acclaim at film festivals. It was a box-office hit and was well received at the Busan International Film Festival. Barfi! was selected for the Taipei and Morocco film festivals and won the prestigious Grand Jury Award at Okinawa International Film Festival in Japan.
Reuniting with Ranbir Kapoor, Anurag directed the adventure musical Jagga Jasoos, which was shot in Cape Town, South Africa.
His latest film as a Director is Ludo (2020) on the OTT Platform. It has done well and the Youngsters have specially loved it.
